In a study of which factors in a student's life impacted their success the most, parental involvement and home support ranked 3rd. What I contribute to the classroom (classroom management and lesson mastery, items one and two on the list) only goes so far.
I do not plan to give much homework in my class. I am not asking you to re-teach the lessons that I give during the day. I am asking you to support your student as a learner by encouraging them when they are frustrated, urging them to ask the teacher questions when they do not understand, and praising them when they do their best work.
Please, feel free to contact me with anything you want me to know about your student. I'm looking out for their best interests too. I hope to contact you sometime this year with something fantastic that your student did.
Sincerely,
Ms. Maddack

Grading
-The majority of grades in this class will be from writing assignments done during class time.
-If you do not finish the assignment during designated work time, it becomes your responsibility to complete the work on your own time.
-Late work is accepted.
-If you receive a low grade on an assignment (a C or lower) you have the opportunity to re-do the assignment by the end of the grading period for a higher grade.
-FYI: The word count for an assignment does not include your name, my name, the class period, the date, or the title.
-Missing assignments will eventually become zeros.
Turning In Assignments
-Unless otherwise specified, all assignments will be turned in on Canvas. If you are concerned about whether or not your assignment went through, please check with Ms. Maddack before e-mailing your assignment.
-If Ms. Maddack has told you to e-mail your assignment to her, PLEASE TITLE YOUR E-MAIL WITH THE NAME OF THE ASSIGNMENT. Life is too short to sort through twenty e-mails titled "Blank #". Also, you should be titling your documents. That's how you find them later.
During Class
-Please raise your hand and wait to be called on before answering or asking a question. If you have not been called on, your job is to keep listening.
-Please get a drink of water or use the restroom before or after class. Prior planning prevents poor performance! You also don't lose class time this way.
-If you must get up from your seat (for example, to get a tissue), do so without chatting to anyone along the way. Please do not walk directly in front of Ms. Maddack while she's teaching.
Please Respect Ms. Maddack's Classroom
-Only write on the board if you have permission from Ms. Maddack.
-Only move the desks if Ms. Maddack asks you to.
-If you do not have permission, your job is not to try and change Ms. Maddack's mind or argue. When Ms. Maddack says, "No," she means, "No."
What You Need To Succeed
1) Stay on task and pay attention during class. Use class time wisely.
2) Carefully follow the directions on the assignments.
3) Ask for help if you need it. Ms. Maddack is not a mind-reader, but she does want to help: let her know how she can.
